Safari Itinerary

Day 1 The Elegant Guesthouse, Windhoek
Upon arrival at Windhoek collect your vehicle and drive to The Elegant Guesthouse, your base for the night. You'll meet a tour consultant either this afternoon or tomorrow morning to go through your itinerary and have a chance to answer any last minute questions you may have.

Day 2-3 Wolwedans Dunes Lodge, Namib
Depart after an early breakfast as it’s a long drive today as you head into the desert and south west to Wolwedans, set amongst the stunning landscapes of the NamibRand Nature Reserve, in the heart of the desert. This is a wonderful location and sure to be a highlight of your trip offering seclusion and privacy and enjoy activities on this private reserve.

Day 4 Sossus Dunes Lodge, Sossusvlei
From Wolwedans drive to Sossus Dunes Lodge and enjoy the wonder of the magnificent dunes of Sossusvlei – recommend you arrive here early or alternatively enter during late afternoon when the colour of the dunes change and the colours are at their most incredible. Sossusvlei is reputed to have some of the highest dunes in the world and is certainly part of one of the oldest deserts; this is an excellent location for photography.

Day 5-6 Swakopmund Sands Hotel, Swakopmund
This morning drive north crossing the Kuiseb Canyon and onward through the desert with its endless vistas across the plains. You can stop at Walvis Bay to visit the lagoon – a protected RAMSAR wetland site to see flamingos, pelicans and the endemic Damara tern and from here it’s a short drive to Swakopmund. This town is a picturesque resort with many good seafood restaurants, cafes and shops as well as an interesting museum and aquarium. Swakopmund is the activity centre of Namibia and you can enjoy a scenic flight over the desert and coastline, marine cruise, skydiving, sand boarding or quad biking. Alternatively, you can take a highly recommended optional day trip to the marine sanctuary of Sandwich Harbour.

Day 7 Camp Kipwe, Damaraland
This morning drive north along the Skeleton Coast stopping at a shipwreck just south of Henties Bay Town, and from here continue to see the huge colony of seals at Cape Cross before retracing your steps and turning inland at Henties Bay. Central Damaraland is home to the ancient rock etchings of Twyfelfontein where you can take a local guide to view the etchings and learn about the history of the area.

Day 8-9 Damaraland Camp, Damaraland
2nights are spent Damaraland Camp exploring this stunning region, the camp is set on a private concession so recommend joining guided activities including fascinating nature drives, nature walks to learn about the geological past or cultural activities with the local Damara tribe.

Day 10-11 Okahirongo Elephant Lodge, Kaokoveld
Today's destination is Purros, in the heart of the Kunene region (Kaokoland) and considered one of the last truly wild areas in the country where rhino, desert elephant and lion survive in this hostile environment.

Day 12 Grootberg Lodge, Damaraland
After breakfast drive into the heart of Northern Damaraland, Grootberg Lodge is a community-based establishment, where plateaus reach high on skyline and strange plant life dominates the surrounds.

Day 13-14 Ongava Lodge, Etosha National Park
Onward to Etosha, one of the best game reserves in Southern Africa, and where you will spend 2nights at Ongava Lodge, located in Ongava Private Game Reserve. Explore Etosha National Park game driving in your own vehicle during the day, or activities with Ongava Reserve such as game drives, and guided walks. Renowned for large prides of lion and prolific rhino.

Day 15 Erindi Old Traders Lodge, Central Namibia
A leisurely start to the day, and a final game drive to the gate, before continuing south to Erindi. Once here, relax by the waterhole before recommend this afternoon heading out on a game drive (own expense) on this huge private reserve.

Day 16 GocheGanas Nature Reserve & Wellness Village, Central Namibia
Perhaps enjoy a further activity - track leopard or the secretive pangolin, search for lion or wild dog, or walk with cheetah. Return to the outskirts of Windhoek today, it’s just a 2.5-3 hours drive through to Gocheganas complete with spa. This is a beautiful location to end your self-drive safari.

Day 17 Departure
Return to Windhoek today in time to drop off car and take onward connection – we recommend no flights prior to mid-late morning. End of services.
