17 Day Namibia's Secrets Luxury Self Drive

Safari Itinerary
Day 1 Olive Exclusive All-suite Hotel, Windhoek
Upon arrival at Windhoek collect your vehicle and drive to Olive Exclusive, where you will be based for your first night on bed and breakfast basis. Venture out to the city for dinner in one of the many restaurants or enjoy your meal at the lodge. You'll meet with a tour consultant either this afternoon or tomorrow morning to go through your itinerary and have a chance to answer any last minute questions.
Day 2-3 Wolwedans Dunes Lodge, Namib
Depart after an early breakfast it's a long drive today as you head into the desert and south west to Wolwedans, set amongst the stunning landscapes of the NamibRand Nature Reserve, in the heart of the desert. This is a wonderful location and sure to be a highlight of your trip offering seclusion and privacy on a fully incusive basis where you can enjoy included excursions on the reserve
Day 4 Kulala Desert Lodge, Sossusvlei
From Wolwedans, drive to Kulula Desert Lodge to relax and enjoy the ambience of the lodge, in the afternoon and later join a nature drive on the reserve.
Day 5-6 Beach Hotel Swakopmund, Swakopmund
Join a guided excursion to the wonderful dunes of Sossusvlei and ancient pan of Dead Vlei. Return to the lodge and from here drive north crossing the Kuiseb Canyon and onward through the desert with its endless vistas across the plains. You can stop at Walvis Bay to visit the lagoon - a protected RAMSAR site to see flamingos, pelicans and the endemic Damara tern and from here it's a short drive to Swakopmund. This town is a picturesque resort with many good seafood restaurants, cafes and shops as well as an interesting museum and aquarum. Swakopmund is the activity centre of Namibia and you can enjoy a scenic flight over the desert and coastline, marine cruise, skydiving, sand boarding or quad biking. Alternatively, you can take a highly recommended optional day trip to the marine sanctuary of Sandwich Harbour.
Day 7 Mowani Mountain Camp, Damaraland
This morning drive north along the Skeleton Coast stopping at a shipwreck just south of Henties Town, and from here continue to see the seals at Cape Cross before retracing your steps and turning inland at Henties Bay.
You'll drive past Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain and into central Damaraland, home to the ancient rock etchings of Twyfelfontein where you can take a local guide to view the etchings and learn about the history of the area before arriving at the beautiful Mowani Mountain Camp to overnight.
Day 8-9 Desert Rhino Camp, Damaraland
Depart Mowani and onward to Desert Rhino Camp. On the afternoon of arrival perhaps join a sundowner activity on the concession if time permits, dinner is at the lodge and you will have a chance to meet with the Save the Rhino Trust trackers who will escort you tomorrow and you have the chance to ask questions. The following morning rise early and the day is spent tracking the endangered black Rhino in this spectacular and harsh wilderness region before returning to the lodge - the lengh of this days activity will depend on the success of the tracking and note that sightings are not guaranteed.
Day 10-11 Okahirongo Elephant Lodge, Kaokoland
This morning you are returning to your vehicle to continue your journey. Today's destination is Purros, in the heart of the Kunene region (Kaokoland), it is often described as one of the last truly wild areas in the country and the only place in the world where elephants, black rhino, lions and other animals live in a remote desert environment.
Day 12 Grootberg Lodge, Damaraland
After breakfast drive into the heart of Northern Damaraland, Grootberg Lodge is a community-based establishment, where plateaus reach high on skyline and strange plant life dominates the surrounds.
Day 13 & 14 Ongava Tented Camp, Etosha National Park
Onward to Etosha, one of the best game reserves in Southern Africa, and where you will spend 2 nights at Ongava Lodge, located in Ongava Private Game Reserve on a fully inclusive basis. From here you can explore Etosha National Park in your own vehicle (though activities at Ongava are included). Ongava Reserve is home ot large prides of lion and prolific rhino, along with waterbuck and other species not found inside the National Park. It's conservation programme is second to none
Day 15 Erindi Old Traders Lodge, Central Namibia
A leisurely start to the day, before continuing south to Erindi, the drive is around 3-3.5hours away. Once here relax by the waterhole before heading out on a game drive this afternoon on the private reserve to search for some of the many animals found here including wild dog, hippo and crocs!
Day 16 Gocheganas Nature Reserve and Wellness Village, Central Namibis
Return to the outskirts of Windhoek today, it's just a 2.5-3 hours drive through to Gocheganas. This is a beautiful location to end your self drive safari. Take a walk, or perhaps a bike ride, enjoy the spa or take part in a game drive.
Day 17 Departure
Return to Windoek today in time to drop off car and take onward connection - we recommend no flights prior to mid morning. End of services.
