Safari Itinerary

Day 1 Chameleon Backpackers Guesthouse, Windhoek
Upon arrival from the airport you will be collected and transferred to the city and onto Chameleon Backpackers and Guesthouse where you'll meet one of our consultants who will go through your travel plans, dependig on the time of arrival you may choose to wander into the city centre, or relax by the pool. Alternatively join an optional township tour, sunset horse ride, or even head out for a birding trip.

Day 2 Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch, Kalahari Namibia
Your guide will collect you from Chameleon after a leisurely breakfast and the destination today is Bagatelle, set in the Kalahari Basin north east of the town of Mariental. A beautiful location, where the red linear dunes run for kilomentres and between each dune are acacia trees offering shade and respite to the game in this reserve such as giraffe and springbok. You may be lucky and see meerkat as well as a cheetah oe two, these incredible cats have been provided a home in conjuction with Cheetah Conservation Fund and you perhaps take part in sundowner drive on the reserve and head in search for the game.

Day 3-4 Canyon Roadhouse Campsite, Fish River Canyon
Depart after breakfast as it's a quite a long drive south to the Fish River Canyon, reputed to be the second largest canyon in the world. Canon Roadhouse is situated just outside the National Park in the Gondwana region (otherwise known as the Little Karoo) and you can enjoy walks on the land.The following morning your guide will drive you into the park to visit the viewspoints - there's an interesting information board, an area to simply sit and contemplate the scale of the canyon as well as the chance to wander along the rim to other points.

Day 5-6 Klein Aus Vista - Desert Horse Campsite, Aus
Onward to one of the best secrets of Namibia. Klein Aus is a truly beautiful spot, situated on the edge of the desert with endless views of the open plains and mountains and you're based here for 2 nights. Relax this aftrnoon or enjoy a self-guided hike in the Aus Mountains, the following morning your guide will take you through to Luderitz to visit the old diamond mining town of Kolmanskop Ghost Town as well as the town and coastal region to see penguins, on the way back to Klein Aus stop at the wild horses of Namib, one of the only 2 or 3 wild herds of horses and be amazed at how they survive in this harsh environment.

Day 7-8 Sesriem Campsite, Sossusvlei
Depart after breakfast driving north through stunning scenery and continue to Sesriem the entry point to the magnifincent dunes of Sossusvlei, camping here for 2 nights giving plenty of time to explore the region fully. Sesriem camp sites are set under the shade of ancient camel thorn trees, with a low wall around each site, there are shared ablutions as well as a swimming pool and bar/restaurant. This afternoon walk to Elim's Dune for a spectacular sunset, enjoying the changes of colour on the distant mountains and listen to the calls of the barking gecko. It's a pre-dawn departure from camp the following day to explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal trees-superb photography opportunities. Return to camp via Dune 45 and later visit nearby Sesriem Canyon, not a large canyon but one of the few places that have permanent water and helped in the survival for the local communities and animals that lived on the lands.

Day 9-10 A La Mer Hotel, Swakopmund
Depart Sesriem after breakfast and drive through to Swakopmund, via Walvis Bay stopping at the lagoon en route to see the flamingos and pelicans before continuing to our accommodation in central Swakopmund in en-suites room. There is ample opportunity to join in optional activities such as a scenic flight over the desert, quad biking, sand boarding, marine cruises, kayaking, tandem sky drive, or possibly a day excursion down to Sandwich Harbour, the list is long.

Day 11 Spitzkoppe Community Rest Camp, Spitzkoppe
Depart after breakfast and head north along the Skeleton Coast stopping just south of Henties Bay to see a shipwreck close to the shore; witness the gravel plains and desert opening up around us with the ocean crashing down onto the shore. Continue to Cape Cross, home of thousands of Camp Fur seals, during the breeding season over 100,000 are crammed onto the beach fighting for space. From here turn inland to Spitzkoppe a stunning inselberg in the middle of the desert and an ancient volcano. Enjoy a walk to the rock arch as well as to some of the bushman paintings, one of the many regions they initially inhabited, it's a beautiful location and tonight will be spend bush camping - limited long drop toilets and no showers!

Day 12 Erindi Camp Elephant, Central Namibia
Our destination today is Erindi Private Game Reserve, one of the largest private game reserves in Africa and a surperbs way to end our safari, this afternoon you will head out with a local guide in an open vehicle to see what game you can spot before returning around sunset. Erindi is home to endangered species including wild dog and cheetah, as well as other predators including lion, leopard and hyena. Watch out for elephants, towering giraffe, as well as a host of antelope. Hippos and crocs can be found at the main waterhole

Day 13 Departure
We return to Windhoek today via the Okahandja craft market, where we drop you at your accommodation or at the airport in time for your onward flight
