Day 1 Fish River Lodge
Arrive at the lodge in your own time! There is time before dinner to relax - sit back and enjoy the panoramic view while you sip on a sundowner drink. In the evening you discuss everything there is to know about the tour and after taking in the stylish architecture, the magnificent views and an excellent dinner your guide who will accompany you on your hike will brief you on your forthcoming canyon adventure. Your first night stay at the lodge will mark the beginning of an unforgettable experience.
Day 2 Hiking
Before the start of the hiking trail you may pack a smaller soft bag (if possible) with clothing that you would use at the camp. This bag will then be driven down by the back-up team. For hiking you will need to have a small back pack to carry your water and lunch pack for each day. After breakfast you will begin your first day of hiking which will be an enjoyable 14km decent into the canyon and during your decent into the canyon you may see Kudu, Oryx, Springbok and maybe the elusive Mountain Zebra.
Day 3 Hiking
You will enjoy your first breakfast out in the open and start today’s hike afterwards. A gentle 17km walk along the river bed where you may observe a variety of water birds including Heron, Goshawk and Fish Eagle. Most of today’s hike is along the river bed therefore most of it is through thick sand but there are rocky places as well.
Day 4 Hiking
This morning after breakfast you descend back down into the river bed, day three is a 17km hike along the floor of the canyon where you will marvel at the geological features in this extraordinary landscape, having your lunch pack in the afternoon while relaxing and taking in the beauty around you. Tonight you enjoy your last night camping under the magnificent African sky.
Day 5 Fish River Lodge
After your breakfast you will embark on a challenging 16km hike from the base of the canyon to a beautiful green oasis of Acacia trees on the upper level and from here you will be transported back to the lodge.
Day 6 End
Depart after breakfast.
